Rescue Diver course

The Rescue Diver course is a pivotal step in expanding a diver’s knowledge and experience. Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves to consider the safety and well-being of other divers. This is why the Rescue Diver certification is a prerequisite for all PADI leadership-level training.

Rescue exercises and scenarios:
- Self-rescue review:
-- cramp release
-- establishing buoyancy at the surface (inflating BCDs using both low pressure inflation and oral
inflation methods and by releasing and discarding weight belts/weight systems)
-- airway control (snorkel to regulator exchange)
-- use of an alternate air source
-- overcoming vertigo
- Rescue exercises:
-- tired diver
-- panicked diver
-- response from shore, boat, or dock to responsive diver
-- distressed diver underwater
-- missing diver
-- surfacing the unresponsive diver
-- unresponsive diver at the surface
-- exiting the unresponsive diver
-- first aid for pressure-related injuries and oxygen administration
-- response from shore/boat to unresponsive (non-breathing) diver at the surface
- Emergency Assistance Plan

Skills to refresh:
- remove, replace, and clear mask
- become neutrally buoyant and hover
- emergency weight (belt) drop at the surface
- ascend properly using an alternate air source and establish
positive buoyancy at the surface (act as donor and receiver as
well)
- simulation of Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent
(Note: Depending on your performance, additional skills - listed in the Open Water Diver section above - may be needed to be practiced.)
